((Figured we could set it for the following day. lmk if you wanna change that, and if you'd rather this discussion be in person we can pivot that way real quick.))
[Thanks to the dryad’s interference, Caitlyn may have caught a very intense flash of anger from Vander through the empathic bond the previous day. It has simmered out now, and a bitter sort of shame lingers in its wake.
He’s had enough time to cool off, but he’s still somewhat rattled from the experience, even though he hardly wants to admit it. Picking a fight so severely with Silco would absolutely affect more than just Vander, and he knows it would be wise to inform Caitlyn of what happened.
He’s not really sure how to broach the subject though, so he opts to just get right to it—]
Not sure if you’ve caught word of it, but I got myself in a mess of trouble yesterday.
[Caitlyn had felt the emotional distress, and the turmoil, but she hadn't really known what to make of it. She'd thought about handling it, but when it fizzled out, she'd imagined that things were at least alright.
[He tries his damnedest not to let his thoughts linger for long on it, but the memory pulls itself to the surface. She’ll get a crystal-clear snapshot of the initial encounter, staring each other down in one of the aisles of shops in the market.]
[He’s not sure what he had expected after essentially admitting murder to someone who had been an Enforcer, but understanding wasn’t it. Not that goes unappreciated, though. It makes him a little less apprehensive as he continues, if only marginally.
Maybe Silco really is just that much of a thorn in everyone’s sides.]
If anyone deserves it, it’d be him.
[Not that it made things any less messy.]
And to make matters worse, Powder—Jinx—Vi’s sister— [A frustrated pause after he stumbles through that. God, he hated thinking of the new name she’d taken for herself] —she caught me after the fact. Came to pick up his damn Shard.
[There’s the mental equivalent of a sigh as he considers that.]
I should be glad she had someone to look out for her once I’d… gone. But damn it, why did it have to be him?
[He’d originally considered it to be something of a blessing when he’d shown up here. But now? It’s feeling more like some kind of cosmic joke at his expense.]
I’d never seen her so angry before. And I know Silco’s going to be furious once he’s back.
[That mental image brings a welcome touch of levity, and it even draws a genuine, if short, laugh from him.] Sounds about right.
[Jinx, on the other hand… He doesn’t even have the faintest idea where to begin to fix things there.]
I ran into her myself, before this mess. Things were… different, but I thought it could work. Not so sure about it now. [And boy, did that hurt to think about—Caitlyn will feel a touch of that through their mental link.]

Works for me.
Clearly, she was wrong.]
I haven't. What happened, Vander?

Let him get under my skin, things went… bad.
[Understatement.]

[She has an inkling. She really does. But confirmation is good.]

[The polite way of saying murder.]
After everything he’s done, I just… [An echo of anger, frustration. It’s quickly tamped down by shame.] I couldn’t let it go.
[He thought he was better than that now. Clearly there’s a lot of the old Vander still kicking.]

[Her voice drops a little.]
I'd...probably have shot him dead in the street.

Naturally. He's a monster.
[...there's no other word for it, really. He's a terrible, terrible person.]
It...doesn't surprise me that she came for his shard. He's become something of a father to her, which...I know isn't exactly comforting.

[She honestly feels a little amused by that, and there's a brief communal flicker of a cartoonish Silco throwing a tantrum.]
Jinx...we'll have to see where things go. She was rather stunned to learn you were here, when she accosted me the other day.

Just… keep an eye out for them, yeah?

[She's definitely going to be doing that. And sleeping with one eye open, keeping a beartrap on her windowsill.]
Are you...alright?
no subject
…I will be.
[He’s just disappointed in himself. And tired. Very tired.]

[She'll be out the door in a flash, if so.]
